There are wonderful new products in this Spring Garden release and I'm delighted to offer my "take" on a few of them.
Let's start with a little celebration! For this card I used the Chevron Background Hot Foil plate.
I began by cutting out circles of different sizes and colors of Glimmer hot foil. I used low tack tape to attach the hot foil to card stock and then ran it through my die cutting machine. It might work without the card stock, but because the foil is a bit fragile, I thought this might work best. I then heated up my hot foiling machine (I have the Spellbinders Glimmer machine) and then added the circles in a somewhat random fashion (trying to keep similar colors on different parts of the panel). This resulted in the circles with the more narrow stripes. I have the solid hot foil plate, so I was then able to put the "used" foil on and get the wider stripes. This allows for stripes to go in different directions and gives it more variety and interest. Once the panel was foiled, I added the Fancy Celebrate die cut using holographic card stock, backed by a black offset die cut. Although the black is subtle, it really does make the "celebrate" word stand out much better. Here are all the elements before assembly:
As you can see, I cut the "celebrate" die from the center part of the base in an effort to not waste this card stock (this holographic card stock, which I love using, is a bit on the price-y side!), and no one will ever know! I added a few embellishments with some Starform dots and stars. I cut down the panel to about 4 by 5 1/4 inches, rounded the corners, and attached it to a piece of holographic card stock with stripes which I thought complimented the foiled panel nicely. This could be a graduation or birthday card, or any occasion where celebration is called for! I really had fun with this one!
Next on the hit parade was using the Itty Bitty branches.
This is a very nice set that could easily be used to be a focal point by combining the more floral images with the branches, but also serves as a nice embellishment. The construction of this card was inspired by the very talented Erum:
The background is simply blue and green hues of ink "smooshed" onto some watercolor paper. I chose to add some gold paint drops for a little sparkle and texture. I applied them, and left them to dry overnight, but amazingly enough, they didn't! So I just smudged them all in a downward direction and they now look like drips! One needs to be nimble and flexible in card making, right?! The itty bitty branches were cut from a champagne colored glitter card stock and arranged around the focal point, an image from the Craft-A-Flower Orion Geranium layering set. The pieces of the floral image were cut from water color card stock that I had previously colored with various shades of pinks using Nuvo Shimmer Powders. The sentiments, which comes from the ___ set, was stamped with gold embossing powder. I once again, rounded the edges to give it a softer look and mounted the panel onto a gold foil card base. I'm hoping that a mother out there will enjoy receiving this card!!
My third (and fourth) project from this release is an effort toward "clean and simple" using the Antique Blossoms Die.
My favorite color combination is turquoise and coral, so I did a "variation on a theme" and made two cards using this color theme. The process is pretty straightforward. I masked off the edges using low tack tape and then did some simple ink blending. For the coral card, I used Distress Oxide in Abandoned Coral and the new ink color, Saltwater Taffy. For the turquoise card I used Peacock Feathers and Salvaged Patina. The die cut has 2 layers of white card stock underneath the colored, top layer for some dimension. I then added sentiments ("Hello, lovely is from the ___ stamp set and "Life is Better with Friends" is from the __ set), one with a teal colored embossing powder and the other with coral, added a few embellishments and ta-dah - done!
