Altenew Build-A-Flower: Belladonna Lily Release Blog Hop + Giveaway ($200 in total prizes)

Lilies are among my favorite flowers, and this stamp set is features lovely lilies that are very versatile. They are a member of the Amaryllis family, and most are a shade of pink, but in searching images of this flower, I ran across one variety that was orange. And of course, as card artists, we can make flowers any color we like!

Here is my rendition of the Belladonna Lily. When I saw this gorgeous cluster of flowers, it seemed that they were asking to be put in a beautiful vase, so I got out my "mod vase" die set from Altenew and chose the rounded one that I thought complimented these flowers well.

Here was my process:

Knowing I wanted to put these flowers in a vase, I chose a 5 by 6 1/2 inch card to allow for a little more room. I started out using a yellow piece of bright yellow card stock, knowing that adding pinks and reds would give the flowers a coral/orange color. I used a rose gold embossing powder with the outline stamp, and then added each of the 4 additional layers of color to the flowers using Altenew Crisp Dye Ink in Peach Perfect, Rouge, Coral Bliss, and finally Crimson. The photo below shows the outline and the first layer. Maybe because the stamp is new, the ink was slightly blotchy, but actually this was a nice texture for a lily. Sometimes we just need to go with serendipity!!

After putting all four layers down, here's the result:

I really love the bold color that resulted from putting the 4 shades of Altenew ink onto a yellow base!

Rather than use the stamps to ends of the stamens, I used Nuvo Dream Drops in the color Gold Luxe which provides a little sparkle and dimension, which can be seen on the finished card photo at the top of this post.

Then I started to work on the vase. I die cut 2 of the rounded vase images and with the one of used on the top, I ran it through the Altenew Ribbon Waves 3D embossing folder. I stamped the stem of the flower cluster on the top of the vase so that it would make the vase look like glass that you can see through. I then lightly rubbed a blue ink cube over the top of the image to highlight the "waves" making it look more like water in the vase. I used Distress embossing glaze to color the vase, starting with Cracked Pistachio (2 layers) and then adding Broken China embossing glaze (2 more layers) to make it appear like water is in this transparent vase. After getting that far, it seemed like it needed a little sparkle, so I put a little gold embossing powder here and there which I think was a nice enhancement. Here is what I ended up with:

Putting the floral and vase elements together, I felt that in needed to be "grounded" so I looked through my Altenew collection and chose one of the Blooming Mandala images to serve as a "tablecloth" at the bottom of the card. I stamped it in a royal blue color and then used a light blue gel pen to color in some of the areas.

It also felt as though the background needed something, so I used my Leaf Canopy stamp set to add some subtle leaves to the background, with the outline stamp being a light orange and the inside of the leaves a dandelion yellow. I wanted a little sparkle here too, so I added some iridescent embossing powder to the leaves. Finally I added my sentiment - "Hello" which I embossed with Ranger Garden Patina embossing powder to try to match the vase, and "my sweet friend" using Distress Ink in Peacock Feathers. I used the Distress Ink marker in the color Peacock feather to provide a little shading on the "Hello" sentiment, giving it a little bit of dimension. The sentiments are from the Belladonna Lily stamp set (that has some additional really great sentiments which I will use a lot!).

The panel was then cut down to 4 3/4 by 6 1/4 to provide for a little framing on the black card base.

I really love this set and know that I will be using it many times to send a happy Hello to friends and family!
