Inspired both by the excellent videos in this lesson that demonstrated techniques that I haven't previously used, and by my grandfather, who raised peonies in our garden every summer, I offer my card on inking techniques.
I started with 80 pound card stock and ink blended a circular area in the upper left with Pink Pearl Altenew ink. I thought that, rather than have the base of the flower be white, I wanted just a hint of color. I then used the outline stamp from the Peony Bouquet Stamp set and stamped that over the inked area with Coral Bliss ink. I used one of the detail stamps with Rouge ink to stamp just one of the detail layers, which I think have a lovely, dimensional result. I then masked off the flower and stamped some leaves in a triangular pattern around the peony with Moss Green (Hero Arts) ink and lightly filled in the leaves with Lime Green (Hero Arts) ink. I added a piece of cardstock slightly larger than the panel with the stamped flower to provide room for the edge. I used a light coral washi tape (gives it a little shine), and a dark green sparkly paper along the edge. I then slightly raised the entire panel by putting heavy cardstock behind all of that.
The sentiment is from the Sakura Blossom Layering Stamp set (which has some really great sentiments with nice script). I used a Moss green ink and clear heat embossed it. To add a little interest and color, I used my mask to cover the flower and spattered Coral Bliss ink all over the panel.
I colored some white pearls with Light Prawn Copic marker to blend with the card colors and placed them around the sentiment. I also used the technique of putting just a thin line of coral bliss ink around the edge of the panel by sliding the ink pad along the edge of the cardstock.
Finally, I added "dew drops" to the flower and the leaves just for a bit of shine and to give the impression that the flower is being seen in the early morning when the dew has gathered on the petals. For this I used Nuvo Crystal drops.
It was fun to incorporate some elements and techniques that I had certainly seen before, but never used myself. I like the result. Hope you do, too!!
Okay now, this is a card fit for clean and simple boutique card absolutely! So YOU can definitely do CAS and mixed media both! That is SO awesome! The inking adds to the softness of the look.
